Requested move

[edit]

I started this article yesterday and discovered, through further research, that his name is pervasively misspelled

  • Support Page should be called Lucien Cailliet and the old page name should redirect to the new.

  • Support I don't think this vote is necessary, votes are only needed when the move would be controversial. If you've made a mistake, move it yourself. If no one is against the move, then this vote is redundant. Izehar 12:46, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible that the "pervasive misspelling" could also be just a common Americanization of his name. 97.32.1.69 (talk) 20:04, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have Lucien Cailliet's signature on a program where he was guest conductor for our high school orchestra in 1965 in Lancaster, PA. He signed his name as Cailliet. 2600:1700:1730:7ED0:7068:FA16:55C9:F5A7 (talk) 16:47, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion 1

[edit]

There should be some mention about Calliet's contributions to O' Canada 24.38.49.250 (talk) 04:32, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can find no mention of any Cailliet "contribution" to Canada's national anthem. If he made an arrangement of it for wind ensemble or orchestra, that wouldn't be considered a "contribution" per se, but that could be added to the article in the Compositions and Arrangements section. More of his arrangements need to be added, certainly. If anyone can find a Cailliet arrangement or other connection to O Canada, please add it. 97.32.0.209 (talk) 22:11, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion 2

[edit]

If Calliet was born in 1897 he wasn't 32 in 1923.Robert55126 (talk) 03:50, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chronology

[edit]

There seems to be a significant amount of jumping forward and back in the life of the conductor-arranger, which can be rather confusing to the reader. LewisChessman (talk) 13:40, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You can rewrite it yourself. I also notice it has too many superlatives: "famous", "renown", "well known", which are out of place on WP. Articles should be factual, not praising. And the note at the end re "pervasive misspelling" should be in the first paragraph... as a footnote. 97.32.1.69 (talk) 18:16, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, just did an extensive copyedit, rearranged chronologically, and collated redundant material. There are a couple date conflicts, which I moved to footnotes. Article could use additional material, notably from the IMDb bio, though that is unsourced itself. There are some still-remaining dubious dates. Need some better sources. 97.32.1.69 (talk) 20:28, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request to copy French Wikipedia article

[edit]

Someone needs to copy the extensive article at https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucien_Cailliet, which has much more material, thorough sources, and long list of Cailliet's compositions, arrangements, and film scores, with a multitude of links to French WP articles. Translate it (Google works), and re-link to the equivalent English WP articles. I'm not equipped to do this myself, and I believe there are some special procedures and permissions to follow which I am not aware of. Meanwhile, I've simply added a link to the French article in the External Links section (I know there's a better way to link that internally, just don't know how). 97.32.0.209 (talk) 22:47, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
